ThePromise Charity Ball
Every other year, ThePromise holds a fundraising ball which raises much needed funds for our projects. If you speak to anyone who has attended any of these events, you will know that they are gathering quite a reputation, not just for their great atmosphere, but also for their creativity and imagination.
Over 240 guests enjoyed a fabulous, fun evening in the St. George's Suite at Twickenham Rugby Stadium on Saturday March 8th. The Covent Garden String Quartet played to welcome guests to the sparkling reception where some of them had a close encounter with our "living statue" Angel!
The Crystal Ball in Full Flow
The room looked stunning with black tablecloths crowned by bejewelled crystal candelabra whilst the specially-designed lighting created the atmosphere of a private dinner party. Chris Sheasby, from the world of rugby, did a fantastic job as our MC for the second time, introducing Heads and Tails and keeping guests in order.
Our star performers were the Bar Wizards, Neil Garner and Neil Lowrey who wowed everyone with their high-octane, spectacular cocktail flairing act. A couple of brave guests even had a go juggling the bottles to everyone else's amusement!
The Bar Wizards
Chris Sheasby also conducted our main auction - prizes included golf at Wentworth, a rugby hospitality package, concert tickets, an exclusive package to Goodwood Racing, a Spanish wine and food tasting evening in the City and two holidays.
We were delighted that our new Patron, Barbara Flynn, created a set of rock crystal and silver bead jewellery especially for the event.
A special guest at the Ball was Jo Wooster, our Star Volunteer, a trained physiotherapist who has done so much to help our Portage children in Russia. The Ball raised £27,000 - a fantastic amount which will enable us to support Jo and our Volunteer Programme for two years.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the Ball, donated prizes or gave their time as a volunteer.
Here's to our next fabulous event!

Russian Cycle Ride
How do you fancy blowing the cobwebs away with a sponsored cycle ride from St Petersburg to Moscow in September 2008? It's only 500km.....and through a Russia rarely seen by foreigners.
We’re delighted that two hardy supporters will be cycling from St Petersburg to Moscow to raise money for ThePromise. George Watson, a student at Trinity College, Cambridge and June Thompson, from West London, are joining the Cycle Russia expedition from 5th to 14th September and they hope to visit our projects at Ryazan and Yelatma afterwards. George and June are hoping to raise £2500.
They’d love you to support them...
Charity Challenge
For other intrepid supporters, can we guide you to the Charity Challenge Website, the UK's leading adventure travel company. With more than 100 inspirational challenges each year for around 2000 participants, they have so far helped to raise around £15 million for over 750 charities. Expeditions include treks, mountain bike rides, mountain climbs, white water rafting, sailing, horse riding and Community Challenges and take place all over the world, with four different levels of ability.
We are now registered as one of their charities, so if you, or anyone you know is interested, please have a look at their website - sounds great for "gap" years and those who just need a challenge.......
eBay for charity
All you net traders can now sell items on eBay and make a donation to ThePromise at the same time by nominating us as your chosen charity. Or you might have items which you could sell on eBay on our behalf. Either way, ThePromise can benefit from your on-line trading.
Sharegift
This is a charity share donation scheme, which makes it easy for people to give any number of shares to charity. they specialise in accepting small holdings of shares, particularly those which are not worth selling, because that would cost more than they are worth.
They also help people with larger gifts of shares for their favourite charities. For details go to www.sharegift.org.uk
We can't nominate ourselves, but anyone who donates shares in this way can say which organisation they want the money to go to.
Reduce your Phonebill with ThePromise
We are now registered with telephone service Affinicom, which offers subscribers telephone calls at much lower rates than BT and donates a percentage of the saving to the ThePromise. So you get cheaper bills, and the ThePromise receives a donation…
Give As You Earn
Donating directly from your monthly salary is a tax efficient way of donating to ThePromise, and it happens automatically once you have set it up so you never need to think about it! Please get in touch with us if you would like to donate in this way.
Individual Fundraising
We have individuals all over the country who are engaging in all sorts of weird and wonderful fundraising activities to raise money for us! If you or a group of friends would like to support us but don't know where to start, please just get in touch with us at post@thepromise.org.uk
If you need sponsorship forms we can help you with that too.
Just let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
Schools Fundraising
We are delighted to have already been nominated by various schools as their chosen charity and are very happy to come and present to assemblies in the UK. Again, please contact us at post@thepromise.org.uk if you would like to introduce this idea to your school.
