<B><U>T</U></B><B><U>hePromise Charity Ball</U></B></div> <div> Every other year, <B>ThePromise</B> holds a fundraising ball which raises much needed funds for our projects.  If you speak to anyone who has attended any of these events, you will know that they are gathering quite a reputation, not just for their great atmosphere, but also for their creativity and imagination.</div> <bR> <DIV    </B></div> <bR> <div> Over 240 guests enjoyed a fabulous, fun evening in the St. George's Suite at Twickenham Rugby Stadium on Saturday March 8th.  The <B>Covent Garden String Quartet</B> played to welcome guests to the sparkling reception where some of them had a close encounter with our <B>"living statue" Angel</B>!</div> <bR> <DIV ALIGN="LEFT"></DIV> <div> <IMG SRC="355531c0.jpg" border=0 black tablecloths crowned by bejewelled crystal candelabra whilst the specially-designed lighting created the atmosphere of a private dinner party.  <B>Chris Sheasby</B>, from the world of rugby, did a fantastic job as our MC for the second time, introducing Heads and Tails and keeping guests in order.  </div> <bR> <div> Our star performers were the<B> Bar Wizards</B>, Neil Garner and Neil Lowrey who wowed everyone with their high-octane, spectacular cocktail flairing act.  A couple of brave guests even had a go juggling the bottles to everyone else's amusement!</div> <bR> <DIV conducted our main auction  - prizes included golf at Wentworth, a rugby hospitality package, concert tickets, an exclusive package to Goodwood Racing, a Spanish wine and food tasting evening in the City and two holidays.</div> <bR> <div> We were delighted that our new Patron, <B>Barbara Flynn</B>, created a set of rock crystal and silver bead jewellery especially for the event. </div> <bR> <div> A special guest at the Ball was <B>Jo Wooster</B>, our <B>Star Volunteer</B>, a trained physiotherapist who has done so much to help our Portage children in Russia.  The Ball raised <B>£27,000</B>  - sponsored cycle ride from <B>St Petersburg to Moscow</B> in September 2008? It's only 500km.....and through a Russia rarely seen by foreigners.</div> <div>  </div> <div> We’re delighted that two hardy supporters will be cycling from St Petersburg to Moscow to raise money for ThePromise. George Watson, a student at Trinity College, Cambridge and June Thompson,  from West London, are joining the Cycle Russia expedition from 5th to 14th September and they hope to visit our projects at Ryazan and Yelatma afterwards.
